FAQ
What should I expect at my first visit?
Your massage therapist will ask you to complete a health history form. Afterwards, the therapist will ask you some questions to determine what areas you would like worked on and if you have any particular condition that you’d like to have addressed. Your therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition to see if you have any presenting complaints.
It’s important that you list all health concerns and medications so the therapist can adapt the session to your particular needs. Please let the therapist know if you have any allergies so they can use a different oil or lotion during your session.
What do I do during an appointment?
You don’t have to do anything-just breathe and relax! You can let your therapist know if you would like to be warmer, colder or have more or less pressure applied.
Will I be sore after?
While you shouldn’t be in pain following your remedial massage, it’s quite common to be sore for a few days after your massage. We recommend that you drink plenty of water and take a warm shower following your massage. If you are having severe pain or experiencing any numbness or a pins and needles sensation, please contact your remedial massage therapist immediately for further advice.
What should I wear?
We typically will ask you to remove all clothing for the exception of your underwear. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress. If there are any areas that are not being massaged at any time, you will be carefully draped to maintain modesty and allow you to stay warm. However, if you feel more at ease keeping on more clothing, we can work with you to accommodate your request.
How long will the effects last?
How long the effects of a massage last vary dramatically from person to person, depending on their physical and mental state, daily activities, capacity to relax and ability to heal.
If you are getting massage to help heal an injury or to address chronic pain, you usually need to come in for weekly massage sessions, until you achieve that goal. If you are getting massage for prevention, health maintenance or simply to feel better, you have more choice in how often you receive massage. A weekly massage or regular massage can make a significant difference in your overall health, tension levels and mental wellbeing.
